‘For a while now I’ve been thinking about the paint chips as a screen, and I’ve really enjoyed finding ways to paint objects and landscapes that feel cinematic and atmospheric. Then I suddenly realised that I could paint an actual screen, within a painting of a beautiful old-fashioned cinema, with red velvet seats, curtains and walls illuminated by the glow of the film. The film that’s showing today is Brief Encounter.’

The Big Screen, painted directly onto the Farrow and Ball paint swatch for Picture Gallery Red, is an original miniature painting by Rachel Spelling. The painting is 2cm x 3cm and it is served on a strip of twelve beautiful colours from the iconic Farrow & Ball colour card, which measures 7.4cm x 21cm. It is sold unframed.

This miniature is signed and dated on the back and it will be accompanied by a signed and embossed certificate of authenticity.
