“I tried something new with this painting. I wanted the background colour, Dorset Cream, to be the soft glow from the early morning sun, so I painted the sky with a transparent wash of blue and pink to let the cream glow through, just as the sun would. It’s that lovely, peaceful hour of the day when everything is still. This is an unusual painting for me because the background colour only appears in its pure form for a small part of the painting but the idea of the colour - the warm, optimistic glow of a new day - is the main thing in the painting.”

The Dawn, painted directly onto the Farrow and Ball paint swatch for Dorset Cream, is an original miniature painting by Rachel Spelling. The painting is 2cm x 3cm and it is served on a strip of twelve beautiful colours from the iconic Farrow & Ball colour card, which measures 7.4cm x 21cm. It is sold unframed.

This miniature is signed and dated on the back and it will be accompanied by a signed and embossed certificate of authenticity.
