“When the images of New York’s Met Gala spun around the Internet in May these photographers were in pretty much every red carpet photo but no-one ever seemed to mention them. I was struck by the way the white of their shirts and cuffs shone out, while the black of their suits seemed to merge together to make one shape. So I decided to try painting them onto a black swatch, carving the people out of the black paint rather than painting them in, and being really careful not to carve out too much because if I did that there would be no way of going back!”

The Photographers, painted directly onto the Farrow and Ball paint swatch for Pitch Black, is an original miniature painting by Rachel Spelling. The painting is 2cm x 3cm and it is served on a strip of twelve beautiful colours from the iconic Farrow & Ball colour card, which measures 7.4cm x 21cm. It is sold unframed.

This miniature is signed and dated on the back and it will be accompanied by a signed and embossed certificate of authenticity.
