“With this painting I set out to paint a short mid-winter day at about 4pm. It’s January and the light has to work really hard to get through. I built it up in transparent layers, so that the grey of the background shows up through the whole painting. It’s cold and quiet and soon it will be completely dark. I love this time of day.”

The Winter Tree, painted directly onto the Farrow and Ball paint swatch for Manor House Gray, is an original miniature painting by Rachel Spelling. The painting is 2cm x 3cm and it is served on a strip of twelve beautiful colours from the iconic Farrow & Ball colour card, which measures 7.4cm x 21cm. It is sold unframed.

This miniature is signed and dated on the back and it will be accompanied by a signed and embossed certificate of authenticity.
