“This is an early Spring scene - it’s March 2nd at about 7.30am and everything is bathed in that beautiful morning light which has a slight mist. To paint this I set out to extract the colours in the sky (Lime White) and used those colours to paint everything on the ground. I used Cadmium Lemon, black and white. The friends are very, very small - they’re right at the limit of what I can see with my eyes or paint with my brush, and really they’re more imagined than painted. I wonder what they’re talking about.”

The Friends, painted directly onto the Farrow and Ball paint swatch for Lime White, is an original miniature painting by Rachel Spelling. The painting is 2cm x 3cm and it is served on a strip of twelve beautiful colours from the iconic Farrow & Ball colour card, which measures 7.4cm x 21cm. It is sold unframed.

This miniature is signed and dated on the back and it will be accompanied by a signed and embossed certificate of authenticity.
