‘This painting was the first time I’ve experimented with trying to make the paint chip actually seem like a different material; it was fascinating to watch it change before my eyes from a smooth flat surface to a bumpy knitted one. The scale is 1:1 so it feels very real and slightly confusing when you hold it in your hand. This was a very slow and painstaking piece of work (it would have been much quicker to knit a painting!) but it was pure pleasure to make.’

The Knitting, painted directly onto the Farrow and Ball paint swatch for Joa’s White, is an original miniature painting by Rachel Spelling. The painting is 2cm x 3cm and it is served on a strip of twelve beautiful colours from the iconic Farrow & Ball colour card, which measures 7.4cm x 21cm. It is sold unframed.

This miniature is signed and dated on the back and it will be accompanied by a signed and embossed certificate of authenticity.
